It’s busy – obviously – and we do all we can to keep our customers happy, which we all find extremely rewarding. What’s great is that there are no scripts to follow – you just use your initiative and common sense. It’s all about building up a rapport with the students that mean you can deal with their issues effectively.

I joined the business in April 2016 as a full time Service and Sales Assistant, but started university myself in September so I’m now part-time. I love the variance of the role – the job is not repetitive at all so I don’t find it boring and every day is different!
I hadn’t heard of the company before I applied but I did some research and I looked at the videos on the website and thought: “They look like they’re having so much fun – I want to work there, too!” And it hasn’t disappointed.
The working environment is great, it’s professional but also friendly and fun. Everyone is approachable and supportive, including the management team. It’s fast-paced but organised – you know what to expect and there are lots of opportunities to be creative and active.

Before I started working as a Sales and Service Advisor for Unite Students, I was a nightclub manager. I was looking for a more fun, sociable job and – eureka! – I found it! I was a little apprehensive about working with students at first, but meeting new people every year and helping people is very satisfying.
While the rewards are great, they aren’t the reason I love my job – that’s down to the working environment. It’s busy and varied, which makes it interesting, and doing it with a team who are all on the same page is awesome! The company clearly cares about its employees and is always recognising a job well done, which I love.

Just a couple of years ago I was a student myself who had never been to Liverpool and was suddenly living there – not knowing anyone and getting used to a brand new way of living. I ended up loving the city so much that I stayed after I’d finished university – and I wanted to pass that experience on to other new students in the city.
Unite Students is what I expected and more. In Liverpool, we all work together to make sure we give our students the best experience possible. I enjoy working here because of the team spirit and the fast-paced, varied nature of the work. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had here to meet members of staff from other cities and create a wider network of support.
The positive nature of the role is what makes me come in every day with a smile on my face. The people are brilliant – it’s very rare to see someone in a bad mood here. I’m still quite new to the company but I’ve had lots of support in terms of doing the BAS course. The fact that my managers encouraged me to go on the course, makes me motivated to learn new things and push myself out of my comfort zone.
One of the aspects of the job I really enjoy is the face to face interaction with the students. I enjoy helping them with any issue, no matter how big or small it is – it’s nice when the students see you as a human being rather than a uniform.

Working in Glasgow where the student accommodation job market is becoming a sector in its own right, lots of sales advisors left Unite Students to develop their careers at competitors. However, I’ve seen first-hand that the level of support you have at Unite Students is far superior and just isn’t available anywhere else. The company encourages you to do as much as you want. I’ve had countless opportunities to enhance my skills, including leadership courses, business coaching and mentoring. I also feel listened to when it comes to my ideas about how we enhance our service for our customers.
As clichéd as it sounds, no two days are the same here and I love the fast pace of city operations – knowing that at times we have a very small window to pull together and get the job done, and yet somehow we nearly always do! We have great camaraderie in the team and I love that.
