About accessibility on this site.

To change the way this website looks:

  • Font size: To change the size of the text on this website, go to the ‘View’ menu on most browsers and select the appropriate font size setting.
  • Other text and colour changes: On some browsers you can change the default font and background colours used. These settings are usually found in the ‘Options’ or ‘Preferences’ menu.
  • Use a 'plain' layout: To strip a page of all layout and styling, you will need to turn off the website ‘style sheets’ which you will find in the ‘View’ menu in most browsers.
  • Keyboard access: To move from link to link in most browsers, use the TAB key and the current link will be highlighted in yellow. To move backwards, hold down SHIFT and press the TAB key.

Standards compliance

Where possible all pages on this site are WCAG A approved, complying with priority 1 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles. For example, on this page, JAWS users can skip to the next section within the accessibility statement by pressing ALT+INSERT+2.

Navigation aids

All pages have relative home links to aid navigation in text-only browsers. Netscape 6 and Mozilla users can also take advantage of this feature by selecting the View menu, Show/Hide, Site Navigation Bar, Show Only As Needed (or Show Always).

Links

Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article).

Links are written to make sense out of context.

Images

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

Visual aids

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.

This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified “text size” option in visual browsers.

If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
