The Web Engineering Lead will be a knowledgeable, proactive self-starter with broad experience in a range of roles and technologies. You will have experience of working in a complex, enterprise level environment on business-critical systems.You will have experience creating and leading high performing, quality driven development teams.You will be a proven problem-solver, keen to expand on your current skillset in a vibrant and dynamic environment that will challenge and excite you.

Working in an agile team, you will design, build and support quality software solutions on our web and mobile platforms, integrating with core platforms and third-party services to meet the needs of our stakeholders, promote our brand and enhance our customer experience.You will determine and implement appropriate technologies, toolkits and frameworks, leading projects in your area of specialism and learning new skills to support development in others. Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to learn are key to this role.

What you`ll be doing

• Technical leadership of Unite Students web technologies
• Management of third-party supplier/internal development resource to ensure quality, resilience and performance of the website
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines that integrate with third party security and quality tooling (such as Sonar Cube and Checkmarx) and allow for full automation of CI/testing
• Develop, scale, and control strategies, standards, guidelines, and governance of CI systems
• Design, implement and maintain systems and tools across the cloud stack.
• Working with cross-functional team to ensure quality of delivery
• Resolve troublesome issues along the CI/CD pipeline.
• Directly cooperate with third-party vendors and internal teams to fix integration and infrastructural problems.
• Deliver application features and changes to meet agreed requirements with strong focus on coding guidelines, quality and security.
• Support the test, production, release and support teams in triaging and resolving issues that arise during the development lifecycle.
• Communicate with stakeholders within and outside IT about progress, risks and issues.
• Overview security vulnerabilities of the application and define strategies to overcome them.
• Contribute to group wide best practices in coding, continuous integration and delivery.
• Work with product owners and UX designers to deliver desired applications, features, and capabilities along with required testing scenarios.
• Provide mentoring and support to less experienced developers.
• Promote development best practice and have experience in test driven and behavioural driven development methodologies.
• Build relationships with relevant business users and the development and support teams
• Provide consistent indicative work estimates
• Build for resilience and reliability, ensuring consideration for ongoing maintenance requirements and reduction of technical debt
• Review issues and work with the team to ensure that acceptance criteria are unambiguous, deliverable and testable
• Collaborate with other tech teams and product owners for delivering optimal technology solutions

What we`re looking for in you

• Extensive experience in design and delivery of web applications in a commercial environment
• Experience in servant leadership and team orientated delivery
• Knowledge of source control, continuous integration, code coverage, static analysis, load testing and functional testing tools
• Ability to leverage a wide variety of tools, techniques and technologies to deliver the best solution, e.g. JavaScript, Node.js, React, RESTful web services, GraphQL, SQL, No-SQL, HTML, CSS, Azure DevOps
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• Experience with AWS desirable
• Experience of integrating front end web technologies with business systems via API gateways
• Strong communication skills and a professional, service-oriented manner
• Passion for learning and self-development
