Before I joined Unite Students, I was a Project Manager for a company who was a sub-contractor to Unite Students. I liked the way they worked and looked after their workers and thought I could bring some good knowledge to the team here. That was eight months ago – and I’m still enjoying it now!

I really enjoy working in Glasgow for Unite Students because it’s a busy city and all the other people that work here are friendly and supportive. The managers are great too, and will help you out with anything you aren’t sure about. The work is interesting and varied and I enjoy getting the team working together. I also enjoy seeing our students happy when their work is carried out.

“I love it when we have new intakes of students every year – it’s so rewarding helping them to settle in.”

I was asked by a friend if I could help out with some events for Unite Students in 2004 – I loved the students and people so much that I applied for a full time position and have never looked back! And it just keeps getting better as the company’s policies and processes are evolving.

I work in a very fast-paced environment during certain times of the year – which I love – and for the rest we’re quietly professional. My working relationships with my colleagues are excellent, everyone is passionate focused on what they’re doing, going above and beyond their job role and we all appreciate each other’s workload. My favourite thing about the business is the way the company cares as it supports and develops people – and I’m proof of that. The rewards and benefits are fantastic and I don’t know if any other company that provides this for their employees.

I love it when we have new intakes of students every year – it’s so rewarding helping them to settle in, even if you’re just talking to them because they’re homesick or lonely or just want a chat. Getting their flats ready is so satisfying when you see the look on their faces. I’ve never lost my passion for this and I never will.

“I’ve had countless opportunities to enhance my skills, including leadership courses, business coaching and mentoring. I also feel listened to when it comes to my ideas about how we enhance our service for our customers..”

Working in Glasgow where the student accommodation job market is becoming a sector in its own right, lots of sales advisors left Unite Students to develop their careers at competitors. However, I’ve seen first-hand that the level of support you have at Unite Students is far superior and just isn’t available anywhere else. The company encourages you to do as much as you want. I’ve had countless opportunities to enhance my skills, including leadership courses, business coaching and mentoring. I also feel listened to when it comes to my ideas about how we enhance our service for our customers.

As clichéd as it sounds, no two days are the same here and I love the fast pace of city operations – knowing that at times we have a very small window to pull together and get the job done, and yet somehow we nearly always do! We have great camaraderie in the team and I love that.

I feel really lucky working for a company whereby small benefits have an effect on your wallet. I’ve taken advantage of the share save scheme, free breakdown cover, cheaper airport parking, reduced price cinema tickets and the bike to work scheme. Unite Students help support you with more than just your monthly salary and that makes me feel like they care about me.

“Everyone works together to help each other and this makes Unite Students a great place to work.”

Greg Taylor Maintenance Operative

I joined Unite Students three months ago as a Maintenance Operative. Even though I’ve only been here a short time, I’ve been welcomed from every member of staff and everyone is ready to answer any questions I have, which has been amazing. While there are lots of teams doing various jobs, everyone works together to help each other and this makes Unite Students a great place to work.

I look forward to coming into the office every morning and seeing what jobs that I need to do that day. Whether it’s unblocking showers, stopping leaks or changing light bulbs, I enjoy getting to meet new faces every day and help in a small way. Everyone I work with is happy and willing to talk or listen.

Unite Students is a great place to work – my work is fun and I get to meet new people every day, learning about different cultures and working alongside people I enjoy being around. By joining Unite Students, I have found what many people look for – a job they enjoy!
