The Role

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Shared Services, the HR Manager - Shared Services leads the Employee Services Team within Unite`s Corporate Shared Service Centre. The role is also accountable to the HR Director and HR leadership team.

The HR Manager - Shared Services is responsible for general employee relations, HR Admin and Payroll for c2,000 employees. You will be advocating and developing a team culture of change, positive challenge and determination to succeed, whilst highlighting the successes, value and tangible benefits that we deliver and contribute to through proactive communication.

The HR Manager - Shared Services would also be a key member of the ongoing Unite transformation program and would lead the Employee Experience Value Stream.

The Team

The Employee Services team has overall responsibility for administrating all employees` records, benefits administration, accurate and timely payroll and general employee relations. The main accountabilities include:

  • Employee record and contract amendments
  • Processing of starters and leavers
  • Pension administration included taper annual allowances
  • Absence processing, tracking and monitoring
  • Any other pay related changes
  • Payroll processing
  • Benefits administration
  • Manual payroll calculations
  • RTW and DBS checking
  • Management of HR policies and procedures
  • Employee query management
  • Management and payment of all HMRC employee taxes
  • Employee relations management
  • Employee Expenses

The Team also provides process appreciation, training guidance and is a centre of employee knowledge and expertise for all Unite Functions, Properties and Cities.

What You`ll Be Doing

  • Managing the Team and setting objectives, which meet the needs of the Shared Services and HR teams, ensuring development of all team members
  • Leading the Employee Experience value stream as part of the wider Unite transformation program
  • Ensuring that employee records are accurate, up-to-date, and managed within the requirements of the Data Protection Act
  • Responsible for the management of payroll processing and related deadlines and legislation
  • Employee expenses
  • Management of employee relations issues
  • Focus on reducing the number and severity of employee related issues
  • Provide support for managers to resolve employee relates issues
  • Drive processing efficiency through automation
  • Continuous improvement of all end to end HR and payroll processes to create a simple, frictionless employee journey including full documentation of all processes
  • Owner of all policies and processes relating to HR admin, payroll and employee relations
  • Provide MI to support functional and business decisions
  • Develop greater audit proof control and discipline
  • Clear SLA`s for the Team`s deliverables and query resolution
  • Improvements to the collation, input and integrity of employee data to ensure an accurate payroll.
  • Knowledge sharing and removing instances of single points of failure across the team
  • Understanding the type of employee data we are managing and how it is used and relied on across the organization
  • Support and contribute to HR impacting projects including requirement gathering, subject matter expertise and testing

For each of the above responsibilities, the HR Manager - Shared Services will keep the Head of Corporate Shared Services and the HR leadership team informed of progress against plans and objectives, and escalate problems if they occur.

What We`re Looking for in You

  • >3 years HR line management experience with detailed knowledge, HR policies and procedures
  • Experience of HR transformation projects
  • Detailed knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the legalities of employee relations
  • Extensive Knowledge of payroll and expenses processing, including deadlines and legislation
  • HR system experience
  • Advanced Excel Skills with a good understanding of Look-ups and Pivot tables
  • A self-starter who can demonstrate initiative, with the ability to prioritise workloads of self and team members
  • An ability to communicate at all levels and develop excellent working relationships
  • Ability to organise workload to meet agreed deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
