The Role

Unite Students have a fantastic opportunity to join them as a Sustainability Engagement Lead.You`ll be joining a team of subject matter experts in the communications spectrum whilst also working closely with the environment and HR teams.The role requires interaction across multiple groups of stakeholders, both internally and externally and you`ll be responsible for driving through campaigns to our employees and customers to ensure our sustainability strategy comes to life.

What You`ll Be Doing

  • Working with the Sustainability lead and the Group Executive on the delivery and implementation of the Group`s Sustainability Strategy with a particular focus on delivery of the social impact strategy. Working to ensure that the broader strategy is embedded within the organisation, and associated value of this is realised internally and externally.
  • Responsibility for the delivery of the Group`s social impact initiatives acting as the programme manager of the "S" aspect of our ESG strategy to ensure effective and timely delivery of the programmes: Unite Foundation, Leapskills, property development community engagement initiatives, Positive Impact and broader social impact and community projects.
  • Work closely with the property development team to develop the approach to the property development community engagement.
  • Drive employee engagement on the wider sustainability agenda and assist in delivery of the customer engagement programme.
  • Maximise the social value of any partnerships and ensure these are strategically aligned with our other social impact activity and the business overall strategy.
  • Integrate social impact activity and metrics into the investment decision-making across the organisation
  • Lead on the tracking and reporting of key social impact metrics
  • Support with ESG disclosures: GRESB, CDP, EPRA SBPRs and others
  • Responsibility for relevant social impact related policies and processes
  • Whilst leading the development and delivery of Unite Students social impact strategy, ensure that all central and local activities:
    • Are a powerful expression of our brand, values and culture
    • Provide the best possible platform for engaging stakeholders with the strategy
    • Support as appropriate the company`s wider commercial and operational priorities

What We`re Looking for in You

  • Broad experience within a corporate or consultancy sustainability role with a focus on social impact issues gained in a commercial setting (investor or plc). Experience of the built environment or a related sector such as civil engineering or utilities.
  • A self-starter with solid project management experience
  • Ideally knowledge of relevant standards and frameworks, certifications, assurance process and frameworks
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver on strategic objectives with proven project management experience
  • Capability to get the buy-in of a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of sustainability ESG issues in the investor landscape
  • Excellent team player and ability to upskill colleagues through mentoring
  • Ability to lead a small team but work across the organisation with excellent networking skills both internally and externally
