The Role

Unite Students are looking for someone that`s skilled in analysing, visualising and telling a story with data to become a key member of the Insight and Analytics Team. It`s a really exciting time to join the team as you`ll play an important role in driving changes that will help make Unite Students a data and insight led company.

This role is focussed on helping the business make informed decisions with market data, it includes making sure we source the most appropriate data in the right format to add value. In this position it will be important to build relationships with internal stakeholders, external data suppliers and colleagues in the Analytics Team.

The right candidate will be a skilled user of Excel and PowerPoint, have SQL experience, be commercially savvy and used to working with stakeholders at all levels. Experience of using data visualisation tools like Tableau or Power BI would be an advantage.

What you`ll be doing

  • Proactively work with senior stakeholders around the business to understand their insight requirements
  • Analyse market data sources to identify key themes, trends and insight
  • Visualise and tell a story with data
  • Identify the `big picture`when analysing data and relate findings back to business objectives
  • Work with the customer insight team to get a fully rounded picture from both market and customer data
  • Manage the relationships with our suppliers of market data and identify new sources of data
  • Undertake quality assurance checks to identify any data quality issues
  • Undertake desk research and track news, government policies and updates to keep the business up to date with what`s happening in the sector.
  • Dotted reporting line to Senior BI Developer to ensure we have the correct data structured in the right way

What we`re looking for in you

  • Highly analytical
  • Evidence of adding business value through analysing data and creating insight that drives decision making
  • Self-motivated, proactive and curious
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills - ability to tell a story through data and communicate trend analysis in an innovative and engaging manner
  • Commercial awareness
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own time effectively by prioritising and planning to deadlines
  • At least 2 years experience in an analytical role

Desirable but not essential experience

  • Experience of using coding language to query data (e.g. SQL, Python, R)
  • Experience of using data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Qlikview)
  • Experience or knowledge of statistical modelling
